Sexually Transmitted Infections
Data on notifiable STIs in Ireland are collated nationally by HPSC. Since January 2013, data on eight of the notifiable STIs (Chancroid, Chlamydia trachomatis, Genital Herpes Simplex, Gonorrhoea, Granuloma Inguinale, Lymphogranuloma Inguinale, Syphilis and Trichomoniasis) are reported by Departments of Public Health and Laboratories via the Computerised Infectious Disease Reporting (CIDR) system. Data on ano-genital warts and non-specific urethritis were reported on an aggregate quarterly basis by Departments of Public Health prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, since then this surveillance system has not been re-established and data have not been collated since 2018.
Gastro-enteric diseases can also be transmitted sexually e.g. shigellosis. More information on shigellosis symptoms, prevention and treatment is available on the HPSC website. The man2man website also provides further information and detail of services for MSM at http://www.man2man.ie/shigella.html.
