Small Animals

Small animals include rats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets.

Hantavirus Syndrome (HVS) - A viral disease contracted through contact with the urine, saliva or faeces of rats and mice

Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis - A viral disease associated with rodents

Plague - A bacterial disease which primarily affects wild rodents.

Salmonella -  A bacterial disease associated with birds, reptiles and various mammals including dogs

Tularemia - A bacterial disease associated with rabbits [not in Ireland]

VTEC - A bacterial disease associated with rabbits and farm animals
