European HIV Testing Week 22-29 November 2013

1 in 3 of the 2.3 million people living with HIV in Europe are unaware that they are HIV positive.

Running from November 22nd to 29th, European HIV Testing Week is endorsed by the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV and AIDS and AIDS Action Europe.

It is estimated by the World Health Organisation that 1 in 3 of the 2.3 million people living with HIV in Europe are unaware that they are HIV positive. 50% of those who being diagnosed HIV positive are diagnosed late, delaying access to treatment. Those who are diagnosed late are less likely to respond to treatment and more likely to experience serious health complications and premature death.

To mark European HIV Testing Week, Dublin AIDS Alliance, in conjunction with St. James’ GUIDE clinic, will be holding an additional testing session on Wednesday, November 27th.
