Measles outbreak in West Cork - update 8th June 2012

As of 08/06/2012, HPSC has been notified of 55 measles cases linked to the outbreak in West Cork. The outbreak continues to affect mainly teenagers who were not vaccinated. Three children have been hospitalised as a result of measles infection.

Reminder to parents
All parents are reminded to ensure that their children (if 12 months of age or older) are up to date with MMR vaccination. The first MMR dose is routinely given at 12 months and the second dose at 4-5 years of age. If your child has missed either dose please contact your GP.

Older individuals who are unsure of their vaccination status should speak with their GP about getting MMR vaccine if needed.
