Measles outbreak in West Cork - update

The HSE South has reported a further eight measles cases linked to the large measles outbreak in West Cork. The outbreak is predominantly affecting teenagers who are not vaccinated. A total of 33 cases have now been reported. The majority of notified cases are in the 12-18 years age group. No children have been hospitalised to date.

Remember, by the age of six years all children should have already received two doses of MMR vaccine. The MMR vaccine is available free of charge in the outbreak area to all school children. Older individuals who are unsure of their vaccination status should speak with their GP about getting MMR vaccine if needed.
