Botulism in Scotland linked to contaminated jar of Loyd Grossman Korma sauce
Two cases of botulism have occurred in children in Scotland, linked to a contaminated jar of Loyd Grossman Korma sauce. The FSAI has identified that an implicated batch of this product was distributed to Tesco in Ireland, and are advising the public who have purchased this specific product not to eat it. See here for more details from the FSAI.The symptoms of botulism include blurred vision, difficulty swallowing, headaches and muscle weakness. The HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre advises anyone who has these symptoms to seek urgent medical attention. The symptoms of botulism are caused by a toxin produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum which attacks the nervous system. There is an antitoxin available, which is very effective in treating botulism if treated early.
