Asbestos-contamination of consumer products

The health risks associated with asbestos are primarily linked to breathing in airborne asbestos fibres. Simply touching an asbestos-containing product does not usually result in significant exposure. The risk depends on whether fibres were released into the air and inhaled.

If a consumer product is recalled because it contains asbestos, specific advice will be issued by the relevant authorities regarding product return, disposal and any recommended precautions.
