5 Nations Health Protection Conference, Dublin, 14-15 May 2013
The 5 Nations Health Protection Conference is being held this year in Dublin at the Radisson Blu Hotel, St Helens, Stillorgan Dublin on May 14-15, 2013.
The aim of the 5 Nations Health Protection Conference is to provide a focus for Continuing Professional Development for Consultants in Communicable Disease Control, Consultants and Specialists in Public Health Medicine and their colleagues in the epidemiology and control of infectious, non infectious diseases and environmental hazards.
The conference addresses important public health issues that have arisen since the last meeting and provide fresh perspectives on established areas of disease prevention and control.
The conference is organised jointly by the Health Protection Agency in England, Public Health Wales, Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland, Health Protection Scotland, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre for the Republic of Ireland.

Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHF) & Other Highly Infectious Diseases: A Practical Guide to the Management of an Imported Case
On 29th May 2013 an education day was held in the Catherine McAuley Centre, Nelson Street, Dublin 7 on Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHF) & Other Highly Infectious Diseases: A Practical Guide to the Management of an Imported Case. The aim of the day was to prepare healthcare professionals for dealing with an imported case of VHF or other highly infectious disease, focusing on the early identification, risk assessment, laboratory diagnosis, infection control, and transportation of a case to the National Isolation Unit, the national centre for treatment. It also dealt with the incident team, contact tracing, international reporting and communications. The experience of UK colleagues in dealing with imported cases was shared.
