World Hepatitis Day - 28th July
World Hepatitis Day occurs each year on 28th July to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis. The World Health Organization estimated that almost 300 million people were living with chronic hepatitis B and C in 2024. In their World Hepatitis Day 2026 campaign, the theme is a call to remove the barriers that stand between people and the services that can save their lives. Viral hepatitis continues to be a major cause of preventable illness and death worldwide.
This year, HPSC has published a special edition of Epi Insight dedicated to World Hepatitis Day and released infographics on hepatitis B and C in Ireland as well as updated slides on the epidemiology of hepatitis B and C in Ireland.
