Review of Environment and Health Needs: Report
The Review of Environment and Health Needs, HSE Public Health: Health Protection, published in 2024, was led by Dr Ina Kelly, CPHM Environment and Health. In line with objective three of the National Health Protection Strategy, this systematic review, identifies the priority needs for the Environment and Health Programme and actions for delivery of same. These priorities have been developed by documentary analysis, literature review and consultation with regional and national health protection colleagues and the Environment and Health Special Interest Group.
One of the key actions already commenced is a 3-year implementation plan, which includes appropriate monitoring and evaluation, to be delivered during the lifetime of the Health Protection Strategy 2022-2027. Other key priorities relate to Environment and Health Surveillance, enhancing capabilities and capacities across the system, an environment and health research strategy and the use of Public Health legislation.
The delivery of this plan will ensure that the residents of the Republic of Ireland are protected from environmental hazards, now and into the future.
