2017 RCSI/HPSC Foundation course on Infection Prevention & Control for Residential Care Settings
The eight annual Safe Patient Care Course, which is jointly run by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) will take place in September 2017. This year the course will repeat the format of last year’s course and target frontline healthcare workers in residential care settings again.
In 2018 the course will target acute care facilities, highlighting the findings from the national point prevalence survey of hospital acquired infections and antimicrobial use (PPS 2017) currently taking place in Irish hospitals.
Similar to previous years, the 2017 course is aimed at those who are not infection control specialists and will focus on topics that were highlighted during the point prevalence survey of healthcare associated infections and antibiotic use in long term care facilities (HALT) which took place in May 2016. This course is suitable for those wishing to update their core infection prevention and control knowledge and skills.
The course will be held in the RCSI, St Stephen’s Green Dublin 2. The course consists of four days spaced over a two week period: Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th September 2017.
Where possible, course presentations will be available to download from this site at the end of the course.
